Carillon Park

There were a few nice things about this small park in Southlake, Texas. First, it was a fairly short drive from where we were staying, in an area we were already somewhat familiar with. The Big Guy was able to catch some bass there, and I was able to walk the circumference of the pond before leaving him there and driving the short distance to a bookstore. Finally, even though the pond is artificial and located right next to some multi-million-dollar houses, I found enough wildlife there — birds, turtles, and even a butterfly — to satisfy the photographer in me. It surprises me how many ponds like this can be found throughout the suburban areas north of Fort Worth. They may not all be accessible to the public, and they may not all have fish in them, but it’s soothing to look at something besides crowded parking lots, streets and highways with neverending road work, and frenzied construction erasing what was once open farmland.
