Memory Monday
Today I’m taking a look at some more of the photos retrieved from the Big Guy’s phone. These were all shot in the month of March — and I had to include at least one fishing picture. Spring was one of his favorite times to go after bass at Clear Lake and the Sacramento Delta. Surprisingly, it was only a couple of years ago that he realized how good springtime fishing could be along the Mendocino coast, and he fell in love with the rocky shoreline of the Stornetta Public Lands, which stretch north from the town of Point Arena to just south of the Point Arena lighthouse.
I’ve also included three images from a trip to Texas last March. The Big Guy may not have been a professional bass fisherman, but he was no stranger to bass tournaments, and our livingroom walls still display 50 of the plaques he won fishing Folsom, Clear Lake, Berryessa, Oroville, and the Delta — including six First Place trophies. So it’s little wonder that he dreamed of attending at least one Bassmaster Classic in his lifetime. He finally got the chance in 2025, and I’m so grateful he was able to spend time at the multi-day tournament along with his cousin (another fisherman). One of the highlights for the Big Guy was talking with the guys he had fished with locally in earlier years who are now big names in the top-flight pro circuits. He had planned to make more trips to Texas to fish with his cousin Bert, and I know that he cherished the all too few outings they had together.
