Today, June 8, is United Nations World Oceans Day; the UN General Assembly created this day of observance in December 2008 by passing Resolution 63/111. To celebrate our beautiful, amazing, and life-giving oceans, I thought it was only fitting to share a few of my favorite images from trips to the Sonoma coast over the past year. The ocean covers […]
It’s been quite awhile since I blogged Mexico Monday, but now I’m finally able to start scanning the final batch of slides. I’ve been wanting to re-scan these for such a long time! I’m also trying to present them in chronological order as best I can; in doing so I may repeat some images that I’ve previously published. Hopefully it […]
I have some great childhood memories of exploring tidepools along the Northern California coast, but it’s been ages since I had the chance to repeat the experience. Not long ago I happened to read an article about tidepooling at Gerstle Cove, so on our most recent coastal trip I was determined to climb around and spot a few sea anemones. […]
Wednesday morning saw a brief lull in the gusty winds along the coast, and I walked from our motel to the cliffs above Timber Cove. Long ago we would climb down to this rocky shore to fish for perch in the surf, but now the Big Guy prefers trying for rock fish in deeper waters. During our stay this week […]

These are just a few of the animals we’ve spotted lately in and around Gerstle Cove.
Blustery northwest winds along the California coast have been putting a bit of a damper on my outdoor photography plans this week, but I did find some birds today on my morning walk. Hopefully things will calm down a little before long.
It’s been an interesting spring, and I’ve been shooting a lot of pictures. So sometimes it’s nice to go back a bit and share some of the images that I may have overlooked the first time around. Even the ones that aren’t so great have good memories attached to them. I shot these photos with my 600mm lens at Clear […]
I’ve played around with this fun photo editing website a few times now since I first discovered it in January this year, and I do like some of the finished products. But I’ve also realized a couple of things. I can’t help wishing there were more options. Although there are nearly 40 different cool effects to choose from, after using […]
