The statue of Ronald Reagan, unveiled in 2015, now sits in the lower rotunda area of the Capitol Building. According to our very entertaining tour guide, this part of the building was formerly known as “the Basement” — but once the former president’s likeness took up residence, the name was officially changed to the “Lower Level.” It just sounds better.
Augustus Sutter arrived in California when it was still very much a part of Mexico. The Emigrant Quarters in Sutter’s Fort represents the welcome he gave to those who followed him, arriving from the United States and other parts of the world.
