My entry for Cee’s Black & White Challenge this week.
Great news — the Chapman University’s Huell Howser archives site is back up and running again! This week I’m sharing one of the California’s Gold Classics, first aired in 1993. Huell’s travels take him from one end of California to the other, from Hollywood legend to a working gold mine, the Sixteen to One Mine. There are a lot of […]
Just when I was sure I had run out of old photos to share, I happened to find a few more slides in the box that I somehow managed to overlook before. Most are from the 1960s and 1970s, but I don’t have a lot of information about any of them.
Memory Monday is on a break this week! See you soon with more family memories. In the meantime, here are a couple of slides from the spring of 1953 showing my eldest sister in front of our grandparents’ house.

Most of those ponds are man-made, but exploring them reminded me of this episode of California’s Gold, which educated me about historic Tulare Lake — an enormous lake (about 760 square miles) that I never knew even existed! Although apparently destroyed by damming of three rivers, […]
August 2000 — Yet another ocean trip, this one an overnight stay. Our lodgings were at the River’s End, a rustic-looking restaurant and string of cabins all perched on the cliffs near Jenner. I was disappointed to find the cabin had no phone and no TV; but it did have a wide balcony, a wonderful picture window looking out over […]
