Along Bear Creek
I didn’t quite make it to the top of Mt Konocti, but it was still a great adventure and one of the best hikes I’ve ever done. Hopefully I’ll get another chance before too long.
So many times on car trips I’ve wanted to stop by the side of the road to shoot a broken-down old barn or a field full of llamas that I chanced to spot. Usually, that doesn’t happen because I’m not driving and our timetable doesn’t allow for random stops. But this time, I’m driving and I’m on my own. If […]
This morning I took a stroll along the lower half of Lakeshore Boulevard, a tiny road running between Highway 20 and the waters of Clear Lake in Nice, California. This stretch is less than a mile long, but I had no trouble finding plenty of interesting details for my camera.
You may have heard of the movie A River Runs Through It; well, this week Huell’s version might be called A Road Runs Through It! His two stops cover both Northern and Southern California — both spots off the big highways and rich in Gold Rush era history. I especially enjoyed the story of the creation of Beale’s Cut and […]
Huell manages to pack quite a lot into this 30-minute episode of California’s Gold from 2007. I especially enjoyed his visit to the Foresthill Bridge, not too far down the road from where I live. The nonexistent Auburn Dam is still a hot topic of debate, even decades after construction was stopped. Around the time that this episode first aired, […]
I previously shared these images back in January 2018. The slides are all stamped May 1971, and as I mentioned in my earlier post it still fascinates me how much Sacramento’s airport has grown and changed over the past few decades. This must have been one of my first visits to the fairly new Sacramento Metropolitan Airport (as it was […]
Even though I’ve passed through both Bodega and Bodega Bay many times, Huell’s visit to these two small Sonoma County towns in 2002 highlights the people who live and work there and who make the communities something special. Join Huell as he travels to the village of Bodega Bay, located just 68 miles north of San Francisco. The sights are […]
Spring/Summer 1962 — My last few slides from the 1960s cover our family trip to the northern coast of California, specifically Sue-meg State Park (formerly Patrick’s Point SP, the name was changed as of September 2021). Even though I can’t really remember the details of this visit, I do have a warmly nostalgic feeling about Patrick’s Point and a burning […]
