Memory Monday, Week 151
I’ve previously shared photos of the area around Leavenworth, Washington, where my mom spent part of her childhood. I’ve been able to visit a few times, and my parents also returned a few times on their own. My images this week (except for the photo above) were all shot during a trip the two of them took in September 1985.

Gualala Bluff Trail to Whale Watch Point, Part 1
There are plenty of places to hike and explore the rocky coastline of northern Sonoma and southern Mendocino counties, and I’ve barely seen anything at all yet, but Gualala Regional Park is already one of my new favorites. When we visited the area in late April, we had a clear, breezy day, perfect for wandering. We pulled off Highway 1 […]
March memories
It’s been an interesting spring, and I’ve been shooting a lot of pictures. So sometimes it’s nice to go back a bit and share some of the images that I may have overlooked the first time around. Even the ones that aren’t so great have good memories attached to them. I shot these photos with my 600mm lens at Clear […]
The Adventure Continues… El Camino Real Bells

In this one-hour segment Huell experiences a true adventure as he takes a drive along Highway 101 and some of the other, smaller roads that made up portions of the historic California trail between the missions. His visit to the foundry where they create bright, shiny new bells for […]
Photo artist
I’ve played around with this fun photo editing website a few times now since I first discovered it in January this year, and I do like some of the finished products. But I’ve also realized a couple of things. I can’t help wishing there were more options. Although there are nearly 40 different cool effects to choose from, after using […]
Memory Monday, Week 150
Back in the summer of 1982 I was still living in my parents’ house and getting ready to start my second year of college at Sacramento State University. At the end of August, my nephew Kevin came up from Southern California for a visit, and I wrote a little bit in my journal about some of the places we went […]
River of gold
If our current drought conditions continue, fresh water will soon become even more precious as we once again start looking for ways to conserve. Much of my local drinking water comes from the American River via Folsom Lake; and the shrinking water supply is very much on my mind even as I enjoy the beauty of the river’s south fork, […]
