This time of year, those of us in the central and northern parts of the Sacramento Valley eagerly await the phenomenon of the Delta Breeze — a cooling wind that blows in from the coast and acts as a natural air conditioner, easing our temps out of the 100° F (37° C) range. It’s nearly always good news when the […]
I’ve been wanting to go check out the Land’s End Labyrinth for awhile. The trails are good, but there are an awful lot of stairs to climb on the way back from the point. Still, with views like this, you might not mind the workout!
Fort Ross, located on the Sonoma coast, has been one of my favorite historical places to visit; that’s partly because it is so easily visible from Highway 1 and seems to beckon me every time I pass by. This episode of California’s Gold originally aired in 1991; and these days the Fort Ross Conservancy hosts many types of activities for […]
August 2000 — This is the last bunch of photos from our day at Shell Beach. Just before heading home around noon, we made a brief stop at this entrance to the Kortum Trail. I sometimes find maps a little confusing, but I really love those that helpfully point out my exact position for me. In looking through my archives for these types of images, I realized I don’t shoot nearly enough photos of this type of sign; from now on I plan to more faithfully hunt them down.
The theme for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week is Cold.
It’s not very far from Fort Point to the Golden Gate Bridge Welcoming Center, but if you’re on foot or riding a bike, you must be prepared for a climb! I took these steps up the side of the hill, and it’s a very good workout. Although I paused about halfway up, it wasn’t to catch my breath — I […]
