I also just happened to hear a Capital Public Radio report the other day on the ways California vineyards are transitioning to new machine-based harvesting methods. It got me thinking about how technological change can come very slowly and not without difficulty. It can be tough to adapt to the new ideas and machines when you’ve been doing something in the same way for many generations. We often look back on the “quaint” ways of the past, but in their heyday these were the most efficient and ingenious methods available!
