White Hall, California
I only caught a glimpse of this spot as we passed by, heading east on Highway 50 — but I knew immediately that I had to go back to try to capture it with my camera. A bend in the South Fork of the American River, a small bridge, and a cluster of log cabins in the shade of towering pines: it was irresistible! Of course, parking alongside a busy highway and walking on the shoulder isn’t usually recommended, as a rule. But I promise I was very careful and stayed as far away from the traffic as possible. Still not sure I got the shot I wanted, but I’m happy knowing that I tried.
