Spring fling

Today I’m looking back at a few of the photos I shot with my Fujifilm camera last April during a quick visit to Lake Mendocino. I was already familiar with the north end of the lake, so I went exploring and found the Shakota Trail, near The Forks, on the southwest shore. There is a popular boat ramp here, but I turned up Observation Road and found a somewhat secluded parking lot near the end of the point, not far from a small grassy area and a couple of small ramadas. I think I accidentally stumbled upon the meeting place of the local codgers club, as they were having a grand old time conferring together around a well-shaded picnic table. They pretty much ignored me as I headed up the dirt trail to find some solitude and a better view of the lake.

I wanted to focus on the Blue Dicks (Dichelostemma capitatum) — just a bit too far away
