Stripes and splashes

A fish on the line

I’m so grateful now for the day I spent with the Big Guy on his bass boat late last June. We launched from Vieira’s Resort near Isleton on the Sacramento River, and explored northward toward Liberty Island and into Lindsay Slough before turning south. We passed underneath the Rio Vista Bridge and found a striped bass “honey hole” alongside Sherman Island. All of the fish he caught that day were quickly released back into the river. The afternoon was warm, and with the sun beating down, I was especially enjoying flying over the water between fishing spots. I’ve never posted very many shots of the Big Guy’s fishing catches, but it occurs to me now that of all the fish he caught in his life, he had a good story to go along with pretty much every one of them. He always wished he could write them down but never did; so now all that’s left are the relatively few photos. I don’t think he would mind too much if I were to start going through the fishing trip images from his phone camera and share a few them on my blog. For today though, here are some of the shots I made as the non-fishing passenger on that day in June.

It’s easy to see why they’re called stripers

Persistence pays off again

And again!

Lure out, ready to release…

… but there’s time for a quick photo first
