Memory Monday, Week 27

Today I decided the best way to tell the story of our trip home from Christmas in Montana was through a few excerpts from my travel journal. Monday, December 28, 1992 — “When we left [heading home] on Sunday we drove through Missoula and took 90 East to avoid the Lost Trail Pass on 93, thinking the snow conditions might be […]

Holiday forecast

The weather is looking a little uncertain for a fishing trip; the forecast is calling for clouds and a possibility of rain. Hopefully the conditions will be warm enough. April is a bit early for our annual trip, as we usually go in mid to late May. As you can see from these images taken last year, it wasn’t […]

Memory Monday, Week 22

This week I thought I’d feature a few faces rather than just places. I’ll start back in 1959, on the trip my parents and two older sisters took through South Dakota (I previously posted about that trip here), and a couple of very special photo opportunities with the locals at Mt. Rushmore and Hill City. I have some great memories of […]

Let it pour

As I write this, we’re getting buckets full of April showers, just because Mother Nature decided that this year is meant to make up for all the past years of drought. I’m not actually complaining! — but I have to laugh because I drove to the supermarket in slightly drizzly weather to pick up a few things, and when I came back outside the water works had been turned on full blast. Of course, I was parked at the far edge of the lot. So by the time I reached my car, my trousers were soaked, my shoes were soaked, and my hat was soaked. I’m just grateful I didn’t decide to walk to the store! Thanks to all the rain (and mountain snow) this season, the weeds as well as the wildflowers are busting out all over. It’s a pretty sight at the moment, but soon enough the foxtails will dry up and turn brown, creating potential fire hazards — and dangers for any dog or cat unlucky enough to get one embedded in an ear, or nose, or even a foot. My morning also got off to a bit of a crazy start today. I’ve been listening to Stephen King’s book Insomnia via the Overdrive app on my phone, and I knew my loan was about to expire; in fact, when I opened it up this morning, I had a mere 50 minutes left! I was very close to […]

Looking back, looking forward

I didn’t make it out to the Roseville flea market today as planned, but I still hope to go tomorrow. Besides produce of every description and all the other fascinating items on sale, there’s the fun atmosphere, plenty of exercise walking the grounds, and the irresistible aroma of fresh roasted peanuts! So until I can get back to the auction, here’s a […]

Memory Monday, Week 17

Hearst Castle, near the central coast, is one of the most amazing spots in California. It was created by William Randolph Hearst and architect Julia Morgan and completed in the mid 1940s. One could wander the house and gardens almost endlessly and never tire of the experience. I’ve been lucky enough to visit twice, but it remains near the top of […]
