The Adventure Continues… Hummingbirds

Northern California hummingbird feeding on tree tobacco (Nicotiana glauca), July 2019

I don’t know about you, but where I am both the news and the weather this week have been gloomy and chilly, and I’ve spent a lot of time indoors wondering what happened to the spring-like weather (with temperatures in the high 70s) we had just a few days ago. That is why, to lift our spirits just a bit today, I chose this episode of Huell’s show Visiting (originally aired in 2001) featuring hummingbirds. Early in the episode Huell mentions that hummingbirds are very popular in Southern California — well of course, hummingbirds are popular everywhere they exist, including up here in Northern California. May these beautiful and amazing birds cheer you up as much as they did me, and remind us all that, no matter what happens, spring is on the way.

Note that because these gorgeous little hummers are so small, you may want to watch the video in full-screen mode!

Huell visits the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum and the lush back yard of a Woodland Hills resident to learn about hummingbirds in Southern California.
