Last Wednesday I featured an episode of Huell Howser’s Road Trip in which he visited the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah, so today I thought I would share a few of the many wonderful things I saw there on my recent visit. Though relatively small, this world-class museum is packed with so many amazing artifacts and works of art that I was glad I made the drive over from Clear Lake. My only disappointment was that the Sun House was not open and I could only manage a few less-than-inspiring photos of the building’s exterior. But compared to everything else I found, this was only a minor letdown — and not really surprising, since I was visiting in the off season.

One alcove traced the Hudson and Carpenter family history

Another held a wide variety of Pomo basketry and beadwork

The main gallery was filled with Grace Hudson’s artwork
