Hidden history in Rocklin

Looks like the end of the road — and it is actually an extremely short section of paved bike path that comes from nowhere and leads nowhere, at least for now. But I had searched out this spot after noticing what looked like a couple of old quarries on Google Maps, and when I arrived, I wasn’t disappointed.

Well, maybe slightly disappointed, since both quarries were fenced off and posted with no trespassing signs. But since i wasn’t planning on going for a swim anyway, i quickly got over any feelings of a letdown.

The creek along Secret Ravine is separated from the quarries by a bike path

I’m curious whether this was part of a bridge abutment crossing the nearby creek or perhaps something else related to the quarry operation.

There’s plenty of history here! Copps Quarry was a bustling location between 1884 and 1915, taking out tons of granite for construction projects all over Northern California. Now it’s just a scenic spot behind some residential back yards which I discovered pretty much by accident.
