November bouquet
Even in November I found a few hardy flowers still bravely in bloom in the back yards and along the streets of Point Arena.

I don’t have any profound theme going on today — just a small and completely random selection of photos I’ve shot over the past seven years. Today they’re helping remind me how blessed I’ve been, able to visit these different spots and to have these memories to hold onto.
Today I’m concluding the collection I started on Tuesday showing photos shot as I traveled to and from San Francisco on Amtrak and around the city on public transportation. They include images from my outing to the Lyon Street Steps. The first part of my trip was by cable car; I normally avoid riding the cable cars because they’re usually […]
You may have noticed by now that I really enjoy shooting photos while traveling — as in, literally going down the road (or track, as the case may be). Sometimes my favorites of these shots aren’t especially good photography, but I don’t mind too much because they manage to capture some memorable or transient detail that otherwise might have been […]
I haven’t been getting out and about very much lately, but of course sometimes you don’t need to go very far to spot something that inspires the imagination — especially at this rather “spooky” time of year. My neighbor’s beautiful roses are a perfect example. I nearly didn’t bother trying to shoot them with my phone camera because it was […]
Some of the photos from this class trip in the late 1940s are difficult to make out, so I’m glad there are short notes for many of the images written in the margins of the photo album. Today’s pictures include a trip to the National Zoo, the Pan American Union Headquarters, and the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in […]
It’s already been a few weeks since my previous Treasure Box post, and, as promised, this one has a little bit of everything in it. Although I’m positive all these items came home with me from Mexico, I’ve long since forgotten the exact way in which I acquired them. I’m also not including here my beloved stack of Mexican comic […]
Going through the items in my “Treasure Box,” I can’t stop thinking about how silly and trivial many of these tiny bits of plastic are. Several are of mysterious origin, even to me, and I now have no idea why I kept them. But in among the fairly disposible stuff, I’ll find an occasional genuine treasure, like the handmade Christmas […]
This week’s collection of images consists solely of postcards, mostly showing the towns of Punta Arenas and Puerto Montt. Punta Arenas, founded in 1848 as a penal colony, happens to be the one of the most southerly ports in the world and a jumping-off point for the Antarctic. Yerba maté, or simply maté, is the national drink of Argentina, Uruguay, […]
